Trainer Highlight: Aaron “Kru Juice” Veverka

As a small child, I sat with my father and watched David Carradine use Kung Fu to save people. It was amazing to think that these wartime skills were being used to help people in need. I needed to understand how to learn this.

My mother, on the other hand, prevented me from enrolling in martial arts lessons because she believed they were influenced by Buddhism. She did, however, allow me to take whatever I wanted from the library, so I used these resources to learn the whole Kenpo Karate system developed by Ed Parker.

After leaving home and moving in with my grandfather, I met my first teacher. This system was Jeet Kune Do Concepts. Muay Thai is a part of this magnificent mishmash of artistic pugilism.

When a Muay Thai seminar was scheduled in PA while I was still in class, a friend and I decided to go check it out. We only had one day to train while we were away, and I was sore for two.

Everything I desired was right here. This was Ajarn Surachai Sirisute back in 1994. Since then, I've been studying with him. In the coming years I fought across Ohio, Chicago, New York and West Virginia.

However, when my wife began having children, I knew I had to redirect what I was doing, since I now had more little ones to once again care for (My older children often went with me to class).

So, I focused on getting my Wold Thaiboxing Association teaching credentials and become a teacher to inspire youngsters. Over the years I realized I needed something to help the developing fighters I was helping.

They needed a system to cut down their endurance training as most of us in America work full time jobs and can't work out six to eight hours a day as they do in Thailand. This was the birth of the Muay Thaibata system.

Muay Thaibata is the world's first HIIT-based Muay Thai method. I had been looking for a HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) program for my pupils so they could train at a higher level in less time; both for my fighters and my fitness-based students, as many of them had restricted training time.

As a senior instructor with the World Thaiboxing Association, I had contacts in eighteen countries around the world, and no one had designed one exclusively for Muay Thai. So, I began working on one with my students in a series of trials over several years.

This has really helped our school, Revolution Fight and Fitness and the conditioning of our athletes.

Kru Russ Herbert was able to help with this by criticizing what didn't work and promoting what did. Slowly, the formula was developed to create not only athleticism over time, but also how to teach Muay Thai in a progressive manner, allowing the skillsets to be acquired more quickly and efficiently, with a greater understanding of the body mechanics involved.

This has become the Muayman Academy (Muayman Academy – Muay Thai HIIT and technique training!), which is in the beginning phases now as we soft launch. We have World Thaiboxing Association teachers, and we are part of the Living Muay Thai organization, which helps to educate the public on the art of Muay Thai.

Muay Fit: Hindu Squat, Hidden gem of conditioning

The Hindu squat is an ancient exercise that has been used by Indian wrestlers for centuries to build explosive power, speed and endurance. Unlike barbell squats, which often cause severe trauma and injury to knee joints and lower backs, Hindu squats actually rehabilitate the knees while strengthening the muscles of the legs. In this article, we will explore the benefits of the Hindu squat, its history, the muscles that it works, how it can help you recover after injuries, how many and how often you should do them, a brief workout with them, and some resources for further learning.

The History of the Hindu Squat

The Hindu squat is also known as baithak or dand baithak in India, where it has been practiced for hundreds of years as part of the gymnastic training for wrestlers. The Hindu epic Ramayana, which dates back to the 5th century BC, mentions the practice of Hindu squats as a way of developing strength and stamina. The exercise is also associated with various forms of yoga, such as hatha yoga and kundalini yoga, where it is used to improve flexibility and balance.

The Hindu squat involves sweeping your arms out in front of you and raising your heels off the ground as you lower your hips toward the floor. This tests and improves your strength, balance and coordination. As you shift your weight forward onto your toes, your center of gravity moves forward as well. This requires you to control your body and maintain stability throughout the exercise. At the same time, the movement pattern of a Hindu squat improves your coordination. You have to remember the sequence and teach your body to follow it. This can even help improve how you perform other exercises, such as your jumping technique.
