ONE Fight Night 28 on Prime Video is beginning to take shape, and the main event at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium is a certified barnburner.
On January 24, 2025, the ONE 170 event in Bangkok featured an electrifying rematch between Tawanchai P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym and Superbon Singha Mawynn. Tawanchai defended his Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship with a dominant performance, achieving a technical knockout in the second round. The victory cemented his position as one of Muay Thai's premier fighters.
The event also saw rising star Nabil Anane secure the interim ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship, defeating Nico Carrillo via a first-round TKO. Sinsamut Klinmee delivered a standout performance with a first-round TKO against Nauzet Trujillo.
A Thai court today sentenced the country’s first Olympic gold medallist to just over three years in prison for the abduction and attempted rape of a teenager.
Somluck Kamsing, now 52, became a national hero when he won featherweight boxing gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
The Khon Kaen provincial court found Somluck guilty of child abduction for molestation and attempted rape, before granting him an appeal and bail.
“For attempted rape by force and taking a person over the age of 15 but not over 18 for the purpose of indecency, the first defendant’s actions constitute a single offence that violates multiple laws,” a court statement said.
Nabil Anane Stuns Nico Carrillo With First-Round TKO To Win Interim Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title
Nabil Anane did the unimaginable in the first co-main event of ONE 170: Tawanchai vs. Superbon II on Friday, January 24.
The Thai-Algerian shocked a sold-out Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, and the millions of fans watching around the world by quickly taking out Scottish powerhouse Nico “King of the North” Carrillo to become the ONE Interim Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion.
Leading up the fight, Carrillo was billed as an unbeatable destroyer who was riding a 15-fight winning streak. Few people gave Anane a chance, but the 20-year-old seized his golden opportunity in style.
The 6-foot-4 phenom used his reach flawlessly, picking apart Carrillo from the outside. Then a right hand floored the Scottish striker for the first knockdown.
Bangkok’s Impact Arena will host a stacked card on January 24, as Johan and Jordan Estupinan prepare to showcase their skills on the global stage at ONE 170 on Friday.

San Antonio Muay Thai athlete is fighting for his future and a national title
Diego “Cut-Throat” Cortez is a rising star in Muay Thai, a fast-paced, full-contact sport known as the “art of eight limbs.” Using both fists, shins, elbows and feet, Cortez has compiled a record of 15-0 with eight knockouts.
Curiously, his toughest fight wasn’t the one that left him with a fractured right hand. It wasn’t the one that split open an eyebrow. And it probably won’t be the one on Feb. 1 against a nine-time champion for the WBC Muay Thai National Amateur Middleweight title.
No, the most difficult fight for Cortez, 21, was the one he chose three years ago. After graduating from high school with a 3.9 grade point average, Cortez declined a scholarship offer from the University of Kansas to pursue a career in martial arts.
Lock, stock and fighting apparel, 18-year-old Nick Gjelaj left his home in Rockland County, New York and headed for Albuquerque.
His sole reason: a chance to train at the Duke City’s renowned Jackson-Wink MMA Academy.
He’s still here.
“Yeah, it’s the classic pack-your-bags-and-never-look-back story,” Gjelaj, now 24, said during a recent interview at Albuquerque’s Kingdom Muay Thai. “Never moved back, never looked back, just started fighting and living over here.”
Friday, Gjelaj weighed in at 140.6 pounds for his fight against Robert Mozisek (142 pounds) of San Antonio, Texas on a pro-am Muay Thai card at Expo New Mexico‘s Manuel Lujan Exhibition Complex. It will be Gjelaj’s pro Muay Thai debut, but by no means his first Muay Thai fight.
