Following a coordinated operation across nine locations, Thailand's Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has apprehended Weerapong, also known as Puenkon Tor Surat, a former Muay Thai champion, on charges related to his alleged involvement in an illegal gambling network within the country. Reports indicate that Weerapong, accused of being a leader in this profitable network, confessed to his misconduct during questioning by Thai authorities.

Amidst the stagnation of Thailand's integrated resorts bill due to governmental changes, law enforcement is evidently intensifying its efforts to publicize actions aimed at dismantling and eliminating illegal activities through numerous raids and arrests. This particular case has garnered significant attention, resembling a Hollywood narrative, as the alleged ringleader is a decorated, heavily tattooed Thai flyweight champion, who was honored as the 2016 Sports Authority of Thailand Fighter of the Year. However, his career had been in decline, and after being regarded as one of the most esteemed fighters in Thailand's lighter weight categories, he experienced a losing streak as he neared his late 30s. It is alleged that the former icon was central to the operation of a site named "g2g69bet," which reportedly generated a turnover exceeding 100 million baht over three years. Weerapong admitted that what began as a side venture evolved into his primary source of income as his combat sports career waned, serving as a cautionary tale for athletes. Consequently, Thai authorities conducted raids at nine locations, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects involved in the sophisticated network.

The prospect of regulatory reform in Thailand was anticipated under the leadership of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. However, political upheaval dashed these hopes. Speaking at the SBC Summit in Lisbon, Lau Kok Keng, Head of Intellectual Property, Sports & Gaming at Rajah & Tan Singapore, expressed disappointment over the bill's demise and the political complexities that contributed to it. Kok Keng, instrumental in developing Singapore's acclaimed regulatory framework, stressed the importance of understanding Thai culture and history to comprehend the bill's failure.

Newly appointed Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul recently dismissed the possibility of reintroducing gambling legislation, stating to local media: "If someone claims gambling can stimulate the economy, I would say wait for another prime minister. Do not expect this from me, as I do not support this approach. While serving as the interior minister, I opposed poker, but once I left, it proceeded. We must restore righteousness and justice to our nation." Nevertheless, Kok Keng remains optimistic, noting that the new government's statements have faced criticism. He added that although current proposals and initiatives to establish casinos in Thailand appear to be stalled, he believes "the story may not be finished."

Get ready for an electrifying showdown! Nong-O Hama, a living legend in Muay Thai, is gearing up for one last epic quest at 38 years young. He's not just aiming for gold; he's out to prove he still reigns supreme at the sport's highest level. But to do that, he must face not just any rival, but a friend and one of the most celebrated fighters of their era. Mark your calendars for ONE 173 in Tokyo next month, where Nong-O will clash with fellow Thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon for the vacant ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title.

This is a battle of titans, a face-off between two icons who define modern Muay Thai: one a master technician with experience spanning generations, the other a fearless showman whose charisma and toughness have captivated fans worldwide. Since signing with ONE Championship in 2018, Nong-O has solidified his legacy, claiming the inaugural bantamweight Muay Thai world title in just 10 months. He defended it seven times, knocking out five challengers in a row, and became one of the most dominant champions in the organization's history. Now, after dropping down in weight, he faces perhaps the most emotionally charged challenge of his career.

Two friends, both multi-time world champions and generational talents, will collide in Tokyo on November 16. Nong-O, in the twilight of his career, is fueled by unwavering self-belief. "This fight is special not just because it’s for the title, but also because it’s a chance to prove something to myself," he declared. "I want to show that, at 38, I can still be a champion." Meanwhile, Rodtang, a decade younger and in his prime, is ready to remind the world why he's one of the sport’s most electrifying fighters. "Ironman" lost his belt only due to a weight mishap, and a victory in Tokyo would reestablish him as the face of ONE’s flyweight division. Get ready for a clash of legends!

"I want to give back to the community and offer kids opportunities I never had. Growing up in foster care, I wish someone had introduced me to martial arts early on—it would have changed everything," Little says with determination.
